SCHOOL SPOTLIGHT

Rancho Cucamonga Middle School

By Principal Mr. Bobby Collins

As educators, we know that a student’s mindset is very important. If students don’t believe that they can be successful in school or don’t believe in themselves in general, it becomes very difficult for them to achieve in the classroom. Having a growth mindset has been shown by research to really help students (and adults) make quicker, more effective gains in learning. A growth mindset is a way of thinking that sees challenges and setbacks as opportunities for improvement. People with a growth mindset believe that their abilities can be developed through effort, practice, and a willingness to learn from mistakes.  RCMS was fortunate enough to have Dr. Blake Brandes join our students just before Thanksgiving to speak on having a growth mindset. Dr. Blake, an award-winning beatboxer, rapper, and music producer has performed over 2,000 shows in Europe and the USA. He has spoken to over half a million students around the world, and RCMS students are now among them. Our lions were very excited to hear his message of growth, overcoming challenges, and becoming your best self. The interactive presentation was very impactful, and our students left the gym with high levels of both energy and motivation. A big thank you to Dr. Blake for helping our students have the mindset necessary to achieve!
