SUPERINTENDENT'S WEEKLY NEWSLETTER

Dear Cucamonga School District Families,

As we approach February and recognize Black History Month, we want to highlight how this time of reflection connects with the core values of empathy, resilience, and respect for diversity in our Portrait of a Graduate (POG).

Black History Month is an opportunity to honor the contributions, leadership, and achievements of African-American/Black individuals throughout history. It also invites us to reflect, learn, and appreciate the ways in which this history has shaped our country. By exploring stories of excellence, perseverance, and innovation, we gain a deeper understanding of our shared past and present.

Here are some meaningful ways to engage with Black History Month:

  • Share and discuss stories of African-American/Black excellence and resilience with your child. These conversations can inspire perseverance and a commitment to fairness and inclusion.
  • Practice active listening when your child shares what they are learning. Let’s create a space where all voices are heard and valued.
  • Explore local events or read books by African-American/Black authors as a family. These experiences can foster understanding, strengthen resilience, and encourage respect for different perspectives.

By embracing Black History Month as an opportunity for learning and growth, we can cultivate empathy, respect, and a deeper understanding of the interconnectedness of our human experience.

Thank you for your continued support in fostering these important values.

Sincerely,
Michael Chaix, Ed.D.

Celebrating Milestones: 100th & 1,000th Day of School!

Excitement was in the air as we reached a special milestone in our school year—the 100th Day of School! This day is a favorite among students and teachers alike, as it marks a significant point in our learning journey. From counting collections of 100 items to engaging in fun, hands-on math and literacy activities, our students celebrated their growth and accomplishments over the past 100 days.

But did you know that for our 5th graders, this milestone is even bigger? They are reaching their 1,000th Day of School since starting kindergarten! That’s 1,000 days of learning, friendship, and hard work. This moment is a great opportunity for them to reflect on how much they’ve grown and to look ahead to the exciting future that awaits.

These milestones remind us all that every day at school matters. Each day brings new opportunities to learn, explore, and grow together. We are so proud of our students and the dedication they show each and every day.
