Dear CSD Families,
Today marks 25 years since September 11, 2001, a day that forever changed our nation.
September 11, 2001, is a date that many of us can remember with remarkable clarity, where we were, what we were doing, and how quickly the world around us seemed to change. Nearly 3,000 lives were lost that day, and countless others were forever changed.
But when we remember 9/11, we remember more than tragedy.
We remember people.
We remember first responders running toward danger while others were running away. We remember service members who answered the call to protect our nation. We remember strangers helping strangers, neighbors opening their doors, and communities coming together in ways both extraordinary and simple.
And today, our students inherit that history differently.
For many of our children, September 11 is not a memory, it is a chapter in a history book. That makes our responsibility as educators and parents even more meaningful. We have the opportunity to help them understand not only what happened, but also what followed.
Because in the days and weeks after September 11, Americans showed us something worth passing forward: when our communities are tested, we can choose to come together.
We can choose kindness over division.
We can choose service over self-interest.
We can choose courage when circumstances are difficult.
And we can choose to lift one another up.
Those lessons are not confined to history. They are choices we can model for our children every day.
Speaking of serving our community, I am thrilled to share some wonderful news from our governance team!

At last night’s board meeting, our Board of Education provisionally appointed Michelle Kendall as our new Trustee for Area 2. She will fill the Area 2 vacancy through November 2028, when the position will be up for the next regularly scheduled election.
We were incredibly fortunate to interview two exceptional candidates, both accomplished educators and dedicated leaders, making this a wonderfully competitive decision. Michelle brings a wealth of hands-on experience in public education and a deep heart for student success. We are eager to collaborate with her as we continue building an outstanding future for every child in our schools. Please join me in giving Trustee Michelle Kendall a warm Cucamonga welcome!
